Alfred Ben Bacon, born in July 1953 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, has lived a life rich in family, resilience, and adventure. At the tender age of five, his family relocated to Farmington, New Mexico. After nearly fourteen years, he joined the US Navy in 1972 and married his first wife, Connie, in 1973. They shared 24 years of primarily military life, living in twenty-six states and several countries. His life took another turn when he met his second wife, Doreen, and after nearly eighteen years of marriage, he became a widower in 2017. He now resides in Colorado with his partner, Sandra.
Ben's adventurous spirit led him to enlist in the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Camden during the Vietnam War. After his US Navy service, he earned his Bachelor of Science in meteorology at the University of Utah. He then joined the US Air Force as an officer/meteorologist, where he relished his role as a Typhoon Chaser with the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (WRS) on the island of Guam, flying into the eye of the world's most severe storms thirty-nine times. It was ‘Heaven on Earth’ for Ben, allowing him to combine his love for meteorology with his adventurous spirit. Upon the closure of the WRS, Ben was accepted to the US Navy’s prestigious Naval Postgraduate School, NATO school, where he received his master’s degree in meteorology.
In 2017, Ben's life took a challenging turn when he suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) after a fall at a wedding, which led to a total of eleven falls. The consequences were severe, leading him to struggle with daily tasks and requiring multiple prescriptions. However, fueled by a unique dream, Ben made a life-altering decision to wean himself off medication, much to the dismay of his neurologist. This choice marked the beginning of his journey to reclaim his life, starting with simple walks with his dog, Summer, and over six months, he progressed to running mountain trails to heal his body and rediscovered his passion for writing to heal his brain.
Ben has authored several books, including Cam's Dragon and The Coming: Hunted, reflecting his experiences and creative spirit. Family remains the heart of his life; he is a proud father to two sons and two stepsons. His seven grandchildren bring him immense joy and laughter.
